Biography

I am a distinguished academic and authority in soil science at the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Nigeria. I earned B. Agric. (Hons.) in Soil and Environmental Science from the University of Ado-Ekiti, followed by an M.Sc. in Soil Survey and Classification and a Ph.D. in the same field. My professional spans for almost two decades.
My research is a visionary fusion of classical pedology with digital innovation, focusing on quantitative land evaluation, digital soil mapping, and precision agriculture. My work bridges the gap between laboratory research and practical farming, ensuring that soil survey information is accessible and usable by farmers. I have authored over 56 publications in peer-reviewed journals and 19 conference papers. On December 18, 2025, I delivered the 21st Inaugural Lecture of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti, titled: "THE STORY OF LAND AND SOIL: A PEDOLOGIST'S PURSUIT OF PRODUCTIVITY."

Pedological Characterization and Taxonomic Classification of Schist-Derived Soils in Erinmope-Ekiti, Southwestern Nigeria

Bolaji Martins Fakorede*, Temitope Seun Babalola

Understanding soil variability along landscapes is essential for interpreting pedogenesis, improving soil classification, and supporting sustainable land management. This study characterized and classified schist-derived soils along a toposequence in Erinmope-Ekiti, southwestern Nigeria. Six representative pedons, comprising two at each slope posit...

Pedogenic Forms of Iron and Manganese and Its Implication on Soil Genesis Over a Lithosequence in Nigeria

Temitope Babalola*, FASINA Abayomi Sunday

The citrate-bicarbonate-dithionite extractable iron and manganese oxides (Fed and Mnd), oxalate extractable iron and manganese oxides (Feox and Mnox), sodium pyrophosphate extractable iron and manganese oxides (Fep and Mnp), active iron and manganese oxide ratios (Feox/d and Mn ox/d) and Clay/dithionite iron ratio (clay/ Fed) were evaluated in soil...
