About this volume
The conference brought together over 300 soil scientists, researchers, academics, policymakers, farmers, extension personnel, development partners, industry stakeholders and students from Nigeria and abroad, with both physical and virtual participation. It provided a platform for deliberations on soil health, land degradation, agricultural productivity and food security, particularly in the face of climate change and unsustainable land-use practices.
The opening ceremony, held on 8th April 2025 at the CBN Centre of Excellence, BUK, was chaired by the Hon. Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Dr. Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, CON. The President of SSSN, Prof. Jibrin M. Jibrin, and the President and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Nigerian Institute of Soil Science (NISS), Prof. Abubakar Musa Kundiri, emphasized the critical importance of soil health to national development and food security and called for stronger collaboration among stakeholders. The Vice Chancellor of BUK, Prof. Sagir Adamu Abbas, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Prof. Haruna Musa, reaffirmed the University's commitment to advancing soil science. The conference was formally declared open by the Hon. Minister.
